100/351: The Mug'n Muffin, Monson, MA:Food delivery was quick, 5 minutes. Unfortunately that is the best feature. No eggs bene, so, I opted for a scramble: kielbasa, broccoli, mushrooms and cheese. The broccoli is the frozen type, yuck. Even though they offer to customize your homefries (onion, peppers, cheese) it's irrelevant, due to the base potatoes, small cubed brown potatoes with no taste. I got 1 piece of "Texas" French toast... one more fraud to add to the list. It's not the least bit thicker than standard bread. And one of the biggest errors is needing to flag down server for refill on coffee. Coffee is the lifeblood of breakfast, no matter where you eat, should Never have to ask for refills.

"Nay!"
99/351  Mom's Country Cafe, Egremont, MA:  I found a pretty good breakfast out in the Berkshires.  Eggs Florentine.. I asked to add Canadian bacon, no problem. Everything was cooked nicely. They even had red bliss homefries, which I prefer. And I had great view from my seat, big picture window over looking the woods.

98/351  Mel's Commonwealth Cafe,  Wayland: Canned hash,  dry brown potatoes homefries & still partially frozen strawberry slices. And, to top off the lame food, the old relic of a waitress was going to walk away without clearing my plates, when she brought the bill.

Big "Nay!"

Victor's 50s Diner: Hudson, MA 97/351

97/351 Victor's 50s Diner Hudson, MA: Decent enough for a greasy spoon type of joint, as to be expected from a diner. They do a better than average job with their homefries: red bliss potatoes & slight amount of chopped onion. Cute atmosphere & fast service considering it was busy.

96/351: Sunnyside Cafe, Ashland, MA: HUGE piece of advice, if you offer full waitress service, do NOT make your customers pay at the register. I want to enjoy the last of my coffee as I'm waiting for my change. Last thing I want to do is stand in line at the register. Guess where I'm headed once I pay? Out the door. Not returning a tip to the table & I'm not dropping my tip into a "community jar" on the counter. My waitress got Zero tip because of this ridiculous process.

Now, the food: This place had some potential, with some good ingredients, eg: red bliss potatoes, nice cut of ham & broccoli on their eggs bene. Unfortunately the preparation was terrible. The homefries were room temp or worse, there were a few pieces that were actually Cold!! How does that happen? The broccoli was obviously the frozen variety :-( and the Hollandaise sauce was so bland, could barely even notice there was any over the eggs bene.

This place needs to ditch the stupid check out process & find a chef/cook that can work well with those decent ingredients.

95/351 : Maugus,  Wellesley, MA.  Always boggles my mind when a place has raving reviews. Service was lame. Had to ask for coffee refill, even sitting at the counter. Food is lousy. Homefries are dry and have an odd taste that I don't even know how to describe. The hollandaise is overly lemony. "Texas" French toast is far from being Big. And who in their right mind thinks it's ok to have ice cold syrup? It literally took 30+ seconds to pour. People let sentiment for family businesses to cloud an honest judgement.

94/351: Wicked Oyster; Wellfleet, MA. Coffee good enough to drink black. Eggs Florentine with fresh baby spinach, very rare, with a Hollandaise sauce that was different than norm, but, decent. Homefries were slightly mushy, yet, correct red bliss potatoes and an interesting, good taste. I witnessed an order of French toast go by, so, had to try it. Nicely done, thick brioche style that came with SOFT butter!! Boggle my mind when restaurants serve cold, hard butter for any meal.

My quibble is with the upcharge for Maple syrup. Places need to figure out a way to distribute any cost impact across their menu. They don't have to give it out as the standard, however, it should be a FREE option.
